ABOUT US
Hope for Orphan's
Progress and Empowerment Initiative was established in the year 2012 to serve
as a medium to empower orphans and vulnerable groups, the organization is
registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2016.
Core programs and
activities of the organization includes: Policy Advocacy / community
sensitization and mobilization, Community dialogue, Orphans and Vulnerable
Children care and support, Primary Health care, water and Sanitation, Community
Capacity Building and Basic education, Gender Mainstreaming, Human Rights and
Education.
Over the years
the initiator of Hope for Orphan's Progress and Empowerment Initiative through
her personal donation, care and support she supported orphans and vulnerable
population (women, aged, children under five years and Internally Displaced
People) in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara State with educational support, health
care services, psycho-social support, relief materials and economic
strengthening.
The story became
different when the founder realizes the plight of these vulnerable groups
cannot be provided by government alone, that has led to the establishment of
the organization with the aim to empower and improve the well-being of not only
orphans but other vulnerable groups.

To empower and
elevate the lives of vulnerable children and the less privileged groups in the
society collectively innovatively, diligently, honestly and in a dignifying
approach.
PURPOSE OF HOPEI:
To give meaning and
purpose for human existence and serve as tool for strengthening social safety
for the vulnerable groups.
MISSION STATEMENT:
To empower vulnerable
groups as productive members of the society, promote, safe guide and protect
their over all well-being and that of the communities in which they
live.
VISION STATEMENT:
We envisage a society
where all vulnerable people attain their fullest potentials in a safe and
nurturing environment.
TARGET GROUP: Orphans, Widows and other
vulnerable groups.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE ORGANIZATION:
HOPEI is working
towards achieving the following objectives for the benefit of its target groups
i.e. orphans and vulnerable groups.
1. To
undertake suitable projects and programs with special emphasis on Primary
Health Care, Basic education, Policy advocacy, Awareness creation and community
mobilization, Socio-economic straightening and environmental sustainability.
2. To
undertake skill development training programs for orphans, vulnerable children
and their care givers, assist and empower them with sources of income and
livelihood.
3. To
establish manageable Training Center for Community Development Training for
various level of people.
4. To
print or publish periodical magazines, pamphlets, leaflets or booklets that the
HOPEI may considered desirable or helpful in the promotion of its objects.
5. To
co-operate and assist in suitable joint venture with other Non-Governmental
Organizations and Agencies seeking the goal of redressing poverty and improving
health status of vulnerable children or relief and rehabilitation at the time
of any disaster.
6. To
seek and receive subscriptions, donations and other supports from persons,
institutions or Organizations both from home and abroad and use the same for
the purposes of the Organization; however, for receiving and utilizing any
foreign donation or contributions, or support the organization shall abide by
all provisions laid down in the laws of the land.
THEMATIC
AREAS
Our key thematic
areas are:
Policy Advocacy /
community sensitization and mobilization/Capacity Building:
Engaging policy makers
on domestication of global development agenda and declarations that are in tune
with our culture and capable of fast-tracking sustainable development. At the
same time exposing the grass-root to democratic norms and values for virtue,
peaceful, united, progressive and disciplined society through continues public
sensitization and awareness on developmental issues. Build capacity of
community volunteers and caregivers to foster ownership and
sustainability. Collaborating with relevant agencies to promoting the
capacity of local communities to develop, implement and sustain their own
solutions to problems in a way that helps them shape and exercise control over
their physical, social, economic and cultural environments.
Basic education:
Providing access to
formal, non-formal education and adult literacy.
Orphans and
Vulnerable Children care and support:
Working with the
community and relevant Agencies to provide adequate care for orphans and
vulnerable groups, and increase their knowledge and skills necessary to provide
quality, gender-sensitive care and support; provide for basic needs (e.g.
clothing, food, water, hygiene, shelter, emotional support, education, health
care, a safe environment and recreation) and life skills for orphans and vulnerable
groups.
Primary Health care
and Sanitation:
In a bid to support
government effort in accelerating progress toward Universal Health Coverage,
improving maternal and infant health we will constantly be engaging
stakeholders, increasing community participation and intensifying awareness
creation on best practice and cost-effective ways of improving public health.
Gender
Mainstreaming and Human Rights Education:
Bringing the
contribution, perspectives and priorities of both women and men to the center
of attention in the development arena in order to inform the design,
implementation and outcomes of government policies and programs as well as
creating access and opportunity to improve economic status of women at the
rural areas.
Child Protection:
Child protection Unit
is to identify and advice on child vulnerability situation. Children are highly
vulnerable to a wide variety of other economic and social factors. These
include urbanization and migration; health shocks; environmental degradation;
domestic violence and family fragmentation; broader societal violence and
conflict; social exclusion and discrimination; harmful traditional practices
based on cultural values; and orphan hood and loss of family, for a variety of
reasons and proffer a transformative social protection approach.
COORDINATING
STRUCTURES, GOVERNANCE AND MECHANISMS:
The secretariat is
responsible for the day-to-day management of the organization, including
project design, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. The
Secretariat comprises of a team of programme and administrative staff, and is
headed by the Chief Executive Officer who is member of the board of the
trustees. Apart from the CEO the staffs and volunteers are responsible for
implementation of activities at the community levels. Such decentralization of
roles has made it easy for wider reach of the Hope for Orphans Progress and
Empowerment activities and has reduced the workload of the management board
members.
